Home, where did you go?
I thought I found you when I was a child
Painting the walls of my bedroom that nauseating pink
The first room I could truly call “mine.” I was free; I was wild.
But home, you were not there.
Home, where did you go?
I caught a glimpse of you in her eyes –
A sparkle, a longing, a hope, for a future unseen.
Our hands touched, her lips whispered the sweetest of lies,
But home, you were not there.
Home, where did you go?
I fought tooth and nail to find you,
Latching to all on which your scent lingered,
Pushed love away in hopes I’d find you in my view,
But home, you were not there.
Home, where did you go?
Did I ever know you at all?
There are no signs to show you live on
And, if you have died, I must have missed the call
For home, you are not here.
Home, what can I do now?
Without you, I am but a raft
Drifting in a tempest’s sea without an anchor,
And when I thought I saw you standing on the waves, I laughed
For home, you cannot be here.
Home, is that you?
I’ve not heard from you in a long time,
But today, I recognized your still, small voice
Speaking from the heart of my beloved like an old chime
And home, you are not only there.
Home, I’m coming back to you.
You sought me for so long.
When I ran, you waited patiently on my prodigal return
Here I come, back into your loving embrace despite all I’ve done wrong.
Oh home, you are here!
